Visited for a week to learn how to surf and generally experience Morocco. A super friendly, chilled, welcoming and fun environment. The food is amazing (and there is so much), the yoga was great, the staff amazing and the surfing fantastic.
Despite only being a beginner, over the course of a few days, I went from not really being able to get up to being out up the line-up — thanks to the fantastic guidance and help of the super knowledgeable instructors.
The instructors also pick what beaches to attend based upon the skill level of the group (Beginners, Intermediates can be separated or together depending on surf), the swell and tides. Was fascinating to see and meant that no one was either bored or put in danger — really really good!
Strongly recommend for anyone who surfs already or is even wondering “Can I surf?”.
Surf Star Morocco – where to begin?
As a family of 4 (9yo girl and 13 yo boy) I was looking for a different type of holiday that didn’t involve my daughter saying ‘I’m bored, there’s nothing to do” or my son moving from one electronic device to the other for several hours a day. I hit upon the idea of us all learning to surf, somewhere hot and Surf Star Morocco seemed to tick all the boxes – great VFM, all inclusive, surfing all day, good weather and a new country to explore.
Surf Star surpassed our expectations, the food was amazing with fresh salads to choose from each morning to pack into our reusable plastic lunch boxes and take to Familiarwhich ever beach we were surfing on that day. Bottles of water to grab as you walked out the door and got your wetsuit gear before jumping on the surf star coaches and travelling to various beaches in such of the perfect waves. We were given the fabulous Hussain as our instructor for the week (just for the 4 of us) and he was so great and patient with the kids name for that matter! The kids loved buying from the donut and nut sellers roaming the beaches, while we opted for the mint tea guys. The afternoon was spent in and out of the surf or just relaxing on the beach before it was back home for a shower and yoga if you fancied it (my daughter particularly took to this and was Cory the yoga teachers little helper). The evening meals were just delicious home cooked meals catering for everyone.
The chefs had a night off on Friday and the group (those that wanted) were given the opportunity to go to the Souk and dinner at a local restaurant, which was such a fun night out. The group is a real mix with people coming and going all the time as you can stay for 1 day or 3 weeks. we were the only English and met a huge mix of people – Spanish, French, Netherlands, Estonia, Russia, Danish… all so lovely and friendly. The upshot of it is my kids just LOVED surfing and have already asked when we can go again. Definitely a family holiday I would recommend to everyone – early mornings, yoga, great healthy food, 5 -6 hours of surfing every day (it’s hard work and great exercise) so limited devise time for the kids! I’ve not even mentioned the Family Hamman and massage we did together (definitely an interesting experience!) and the lovely chefs wife Ibrahim who did Henna for my daughter at her house while I played with their son. The talented teachers who not only surf but sing and play instruments at every opportunity whether at the house or in restaurants. Khalid who had every footy channel available much to my husband’s delight and made bets with my daughter on the footy, with the loser having to make or give something to the winner. The girls on reception were nothing was too much trouble. Surf Star is a real family and go the extra mile to make you feel at home and part of their community, posh it is not but if your looking for a different holiday on a budget with great people this is it
